Get to know Martiza
Maritza Sifuentez-Chavarria is a lifelong Republican running to be your next Brazos County District Attorney. Maritza is a Brazos County native, who was born and raised in Bryan, Texas and has deep family ties to our community. She attended Bryan High School and is a proud Fighting Texas Aggie. Upon graduating from Texas A&M, Maritza attended South Texas College of Law where she earned her juris doctorate.
Upon graduating from law school she immediately began her law career as a prosecutor. She helped open and establish the first Brazos County Public Defender’s office in January of 2023 and previously served as Assistant District Attorney in the Brazos County District Attorney’s office for over 8 years. Maritza was identified early on as a natural leader and was chosen to be responsible for actively training and supervising younger prosecutors in hearings, court, and for plea negotiations. She was also assigned to other specialty divisions within the office where she gained a robust and in-depth understanding of the multiple facets of the DA’s office.
Maritza is running to be your district attorney and to lead the office from the front with a commitment to transparency, accountability, and visibility. She is the only candidate for Brazos County District Attorney who is Board Certified in Criminal Law, which has earned her the trust and support of current and active law enforcement. Maritza has a proven record of being tough on crime and putting dangerous criminals behind bars.
Maritza’s extensive trial experience includes the prosecution of cases such as: Aggravated Assault with a Deadly Weapon, Intoxication Manslaughter, Family Violence, Sexual Assault, Sexual Assault of a Child, Gang-Related Offenses, and White-Collar Crime.
Sifeuntez-Chavarria has built a reputation for being tough in the court room. She is committed to never waiver when it comes to doing what is right – no matter what it takes. Maritza understands that a safe Brazos County is a prosperous Brazos County. That is why she will be a staunch supporter for our law enforcement and will work with them to ensure our community, neighborhoods, and schools are safe.
Maritza is married to Matt, also a Brazos County native, and they have three children. They attend Skybreak Church.

- Board Certified in Criminal law meaning that she is recognized by the Texas Board of Legal Specialization as a specialist in this field.
- Only candidate with the dual experience of being a prosecutor and a defense attorney.
